The patents should have some value, otherwise why would EM waste time and money securing them?
The patents reflect developments that have been tested and found to offer some improvements in SPL &/or reliability &/or manufacturing efficiency. These developments could well have happened months ago. It looks like EM's involvement has dramatically increased the evolution of the chip.
Is anyone checking - have AKP been granted any new patents recently in jurisdictions outside China?
