The Year of the Dragon thing might seem like a bunch of silly astrological nonsense but it is funnily enough a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy.
The parents believe that if the baby is born in the Year of the Dragon they are destined to be prosperous and successful. So they have higher expectations for these children, invest more in them, and - lo and behold - they end up doing better.
