a la chevron?

The following link I came across discusses Chevron's early adventures into west African deepwater drilling.

Perhaps I'm reading too much into this, but there seem some interesting parallels between the vicissitudes of Chevron and the Woodside JV, ie. some quite early successes, then initial failures as they stepped out into deeper waters to the west. The bit I like is that Chevron seemed to learn a lot about how to interpret subtle seismic shifts in the deeper waters, which subsequently led to a string of commercial discoveries.

Here's hoping the Woodside JV can follow suit!
