I find your ignorance amazing john. Aukus is an Alliance. It is in the interests of the US, UK and Australia for Australia to have nuclear powered submarines. Whilst it was a Morrison Government initiative, it was the right one imo. Nuclear powered submarines have incredible range and are extremely difficult to detect, which is why they are so good a defensive asset, and of incredible value should our sea lanes need to be protected. Diesel submarines have limited range and are easily detected. It is not in anyone's interests to "mark up" the cost of their manufacture.

And 3) diesel subs are quite than nuclear submarines and therefore more stealthy in home waters in Australia's coast, but for long range offensive missions they are less stealthy to nuclear subs because they have to resurface for air.
