Brilliant read KA!
I keep talking about this Woodside webcast, but it really was good to hear Don Voelte talk - he's so positive and knowlegeable and confident (wish he was Hardman's new CEO!). Hearing him talk up Mauritania was great. It's funny because I think he came over to Woodside from Chevron didn't he? At least if it wasn't his last company, I'm positive he's had a stint with them. I can't recall where in the presentation he mentioned it, but he also likened the fact that the deeper water plays like Merou and Capitaine coming up dry were similar to what happened in Angola. He also likened the variable sands as being very similar to Angola - he said sometimes you get lucky and the sands are consistent in the whole area, so you know exactly what to look for from the 3D seismic, but unfortunately Mauritania (aka Angola) wasn't like that. It just makes things a bit harder on the technical sides of things and just like Chevron, once they get on top of it there'll be no stopping us. I'm sure WPL/HDR will have learnt a hell of a lot from what they've drilled so far, and from reading that article it almost sounds like we're hitting Mauritania harder than Chevron hit Angola. Maybe in a couple of years we'll have a better story than Chevron to tell.......here's hoping anyway......
Cheers,
Butcherano.
