    Concern about the Tanbreez project

The environmental organizations Noah and Urani Naamik do not understand why Tanbreez has been granted an exploitation permit based on a seven-year-old consultation document. In addition, they are surprised that the nearby world heritage site Kujataa does not play a role in the mining project at all.

Not everyone is happy that Australian Tanbreez has obtained a 30-year exploitation permit for an area covering 18 square kilometers at Killavaat Alannguat in South Greenland.

This is written by the newspaper Sermitsiaq.

On the contrary, the environmental organizations Noah and the local Urani Naamik in Narsaq are very concerned, who have applied for access to the permit to see what it covers.

    - We wonder about the whole process, because the utilization permit must have been granted on a seven-year-old consultation material, which does not even take into account an updated EIA report that came in 2016, says spokesperson from Noah, Niels Henrik Hooge, referring to the material that is available on the consultation portal.

    - The consultation responses also do not relate to the authorities' desire for the company to establish a chemical separation plant in Greenland, which will increase tax revenue, but also bring major environmental problems with it, says Niels Henrik Hooge, and refers to a memorandum from 2015 prepared by Lett Advokater.
