My partner surprised me with a very unusual gift this festive season. As I talk Lynas , rare earths, mining, processing etc. most days in great detail he must have realized to what extent every aspect of the rare earth story consumes me.
The gift was a Rare Earth Metals Set. A sample of each of the 16 rare earth elements were housed in individual small 4 cm tall jars in a display rack. The 17th element “Promethium” was probably not included because of it’s high level of radioactivity. It is used in satellite batteries.
I believe the set of 16 rare earth elements came from Spain and is for teaching chemistry classes. Or for the fascination of people who are interested in this subject.
My partner twice contacted Lynas to see if they could sell him samples of their oxides but no joy.
I hadto share this with someone, and as I could not harness any interest from myreal-world friends, I turned instead to my on-line friends here on the LynasForum.
