There are obstacles in all scenarios - both coal and renewables. But why should they be restricted to coal based energy, requiring them to constantly purchase coal, ship it over, truck/rail it to the communities, etc etc. when you could set up a solar farm (as you mentioned, many, not just one) which required minimal infrastructure and minimal ongoing costs?

The obstacles for coal are obvioiusly a lot lower than for renewables, otherwise why wouldn't everyone simple go for renewables?

Because of the gating parameters inherent the laws of physics, thermodaynamics and economics.
Who is holding an international convention gun to anyone's head saying, "You have to build coal fired power generation"?
"Minimal infrastructure"... there's just one element of your naivety.
If going full-bore renewable energy was such a minimalist undertaking, why isn't every country in the world not doing so exclusively?
