As a non-EV owner I'm not fully up to speed on this issue, but I think there should be government regulations about charger information, availabiity, functionality and pricing. It would be the equivalent of the NSW Fuel check app and website, where you can see the current prices of all fuel types, including a map, and shop around. AFAIK the EV app you can get at the moment is based on contributions from citizens, not info from the providers of the charge stations. It should be compulsory to provide real-time status of every compliant EV charger.
As for the need for adapters, obviously there are a lot of EV noobs out there! They'll learn fast.
