The hydrogen Headstart criteria for applicants appears to specifically exclude methane pyrolysis of biogas. This is despite the fact that biogas is a renewable source and is in fact greener than electrolysis because it's removing carbon from the atmosphere, making it carbon negative. They also actually state that the method of producing hydrogen must be electrolysis
"The entire hydrogen production process (including balance of plant)
must be from electrolysis and be 100% powered by renewable energy."
Going a step further to disallow Hazer's hydrogen from biogas tech. they also say the project must be "large scale" It is doubtful if any water treatment plant in Australia would be able to produce sufficient methane to satisfy this criteria.
The best we can hope for is that the CDP works so successfully that everyone will want one and the push for natural gas (low emissions hydrogen) will be successful for large scale production.
