Yup, agreed. Also so much of our country's capital is also tied up in useless, non-productive assets (i.e. housing). If that money was instead spent on scaling and value adding our mineral resources, we'd be in a much better position as a country.
But lots of our lovely ruling class pollies own investment properties, so the status quo is unlikely to ever change.
