The woman is a repeating theme in Rev, she is the bride, the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, and they all mean mostly the same thing, the Law of God. When it says the first Heaven passed away it means a previous religion has passed its used by date and a new religion will replace it.
Revelation is predominantly about the rise of Islam and the effect it had in trying to destroy the birth of a new religion. Just as a small example, a dragon with seven heads and ten crowns. There were seven dominions ruled by the corrupt Muslim dynasty of the Umayyads, thus seven crowns and there were ten names of these rulers. The corruption they injected into Islam has caused what you see today, a despotic religion for men.
Revelation is very detailed and complex and no Christian will let go of Revelation because they can make it fit anything they like.
But, hey, Christianity is not going to let that go, they even stole the OT from the Jews which was their scripture. The Hindus and Buddhists need to count themselves lucky they didn't lose their scripture to Christianity, but they did get eliminated as true religions.
