Beenup is a sobering tale. Because of HC policies, you need to Google the key text, but here is the punchline, from 1999:
"Beenup has cost shareholders more than $350 million in pre-tax write-offs over three years plus unspecified operating losses incurred during its short but spectacularly unsuccessful operating phase. .... Beenup has never reached even 50 per cent of design capacity and the company last year declared force majeure on its mineral sand contracts with its Norwegian partner, Tinfos AS, with whom BHP also has a joint venture deal in an ilmenite smelter".
It would take a substantial analysis to determine what parallels there inform the present situation, so it would be unhelpful to draw any other conclusion beyond that made already, namely the ms game can be hard!
