Sloppy wording by me, and should have clarified, because I already had a small holding from 18 months ago already in profit, my buy in today brought my average up so my "stop loss" is really just a profit protection or capital protection. Obviously I don't want to set such a tight stop loss that I guarantee being shaken out by bot and end of trading session shenanigans. I usually set very generous (and stepped) take profits for the upside case, there would be nothing worse than getting taken out at the beginning of a once in a decade type of run in share price. Although in BMN's case its actually had a very strong run.

Still got to protect yourself from the absolute black swan events like Vladimir Putin waking up one morning and deciding to drop a bomb on a Ukrainian nuclear power plant, or something like that.
