Sydney 2000 A New South Wales district court judge has sentenced a Sydney man to three-and-a-half years in jail over the theft of army rocket launchers he knew could be used by terrorists.

30-year-old Taha Abdul Rahman from Leumeah in Sydney's south-west was arrested in January last year over the theft of seven rocket launchers from an army depot in 2003.

In November he pleaded guilty to four offences including buying a prohibited weapon and dishonestly receiving stolen property.

The court heard he acted as a middle man, earning a commission for selling the weapons.

Judge Mark Marien said only one of the weapons has ever been found and that Taha Abdul Rahman was aware they could be used by terrorists inside or outside Australia.

Judge Marien said the weapons are designed to penetrate concrete and could kill the occupants of a passenger vehicle.

But he said an early guilty plea has saved the need for an expensive trial.

Abdul Rahman displayed no emotion as the sentence was handed down, looking over at his pregnant wife and his two children who were in court for the sentencing.

As she left court Mrs Abdul Rahman declined to comment to media.

The three-and-a-half year term has a non-parole period of two years and five months.

With time already served Taha Abdul Rahman be eligible for parole in December 2009."

And the police have only found ONE of the Rocket launchers!
