Because their historical ROE doesn't mean much to me looking forward. They have also raised capital making it even less applicable.
I also use the average of the last two financial years equity figures to calculate ROE...ala Roger Montgomery's method.
I actually worked my estimate of FY11's ROE at just over 5% but gave them some leeway to 7.5% given I believe they may outperform. It all comes down to expectations of this years profit. I should mention that these figures are my expectations for FY11 and FY12 intrinsic value.
