Hi Max. Sorry, it’s hard to hear you from the hole lol! There has never been a western style of democracy ( or lack of it) in the Balkans and people were relatively happy, until they were introduced to it. From free education, health care, subsidised housing, utilities etc. to the extreme poverty on one side and the extreme wealth on the other. If you don’t have, you are left behind. That is not how things used to be in ‘non - democratic’ times.

Russia and Ukraine have the same system of governance, stemming from the Soviet era . That’s why it is laughable when few here are desperately trying to portray Ukraine as something it is essentially not.
