Who would have thought a manager would continually lose AUM - shocking. I just looked at Platinum's range of funds and their relative performance to the benchmark - and how do I say this... they are horrible.
Take away the from inception gimmick and all you have is years of underperformance.
This manager is on borrowed time, and it should be. Investors shouldn't be lining the pockets of these so called "experts" for crappy investment performance.
I am not a holder, for obvious reasons, but I agree a buyout is the only hope for this mess. Regal would be a good fit - mainly because they are still searching to expand FUM. That and the fact, despite recent performance, they know how to generate alpha.
Magellan would never go near this. They are already in an uphill battle to restore faith - after the Hamish saga. Not to mention the media coverage - the joining of Magellan and Platinum - the two relics of the past... who have failed investors.
