i will add jonkey, when i was single (and happy lol) i worked as much overtime as i could get my hands on - every weekend, every holiday, as much as i could, even in the top tax bracket back then, as it was worthwhile at the time. but times change, responsibilities change, and understanding of finances change.

for me, its all about reducing costs. as the mrs stays home, she has time to shop and time to consider quality vs cost - buy well when the price allows. and in the current environment, quality items are readily available at great prices. we shop at costco, as the quality is brilliant (fresh food is a mile better than the majors) and no you dont have to buy bulk, but with 4 kids, you do anyway.

all i can do is ask those who are doing it tough to reconsider their aims - is more income the real answer, or is it lessening costs thru not chasing extra income.

    very often works.
