These alternative Lithium extraction/ processing technologies such as Lithium Australia (LIT), Lepidico (LPD) and even Calix (CXL) in Australia have had problems with finance and commercialisation. Correct me if I'm wrong, and I think it was back in 2016/17 that Lithium Australia tried to takeover Lepidico and then they had a dispute about who was pinching whose technology. 6-7 years on and what have we got? The only one that has a major partner in Lithium is Calix (CXL), with its Pilot plant electric kiln in conjunction with Pilbara Minerals (PLS). They all have promise, as have several companies chasing Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) processes from Lithium brines. I think traditional processing will be the norm for quite a while, while DLE I believe is a longer term dream.
The "Golden Egg" is reducing the amount of Energy required to process, and most importantly reducing the millions of tonnes of waste being shipped around the globe. Disclosure I have a holding in LPD & PLS. No advice just DYOR.
p.s it is dangerous for Governments to try and pick winners. Lithium and electric transport have won, but the future methods of processing have yet to be decided.
The Government may assist in my view with the EV revolution, mainly by establishing the North American Charging Standard (NACS) which would make all charging stations and the vehicle plugs compatible no matter which brand (No cost to the public), just an administrative change with big ramifications.
