If you are wondering about an abrupt fall in an SP, simples, have a look at the chart- read the announcement that corresponds to the most abrupt fall- read any commentary that followed that announcement.
The above is only a start to your research- you would still be a long way from thinking about investing once you have completed the above.
My own research usually includes reading several annual reports- especially if their are any sharp spikes in either direction in the long term chart- what happened- what did the board do next- what plans have they in place now etc etc.
