- Anson Resources lands conditional use permit for exploration drilling at Green River
- Planned wells will feed brine directly into the demonstration plant to closely replicate commercial operating conditions
- Construction of demonstration plant is progressing on schedule
Special Report: Anson’s plans to develop its Green River lithium brine project in Utah as part of a broader dual project development strategy have advanced following a conditional grant for drilling.
Green River is a potentially large project, with a conceptual exploration target of between 2Bt and 2.6Bt of brines grading 100ppm to 150ppm lithium and 2,000ppm to 3,000ppm bromine.
Early work has indicated that lithium-rich brine at the 106.2km2 project could flow to the surface naturally, which could reduce operating costs by eliminating the need for mechanical pumping to extract brines from depth.
Anson Resources (ASX:ASN) intends to develop Green River in parallel with its flagship asset, the nearby 1.038Mt LCE Paradox lithium project about 50km southeast.
Both projects have similar geological, metallurgical and structural characteristics.
Green light for exploration drilling
The receipt of the Conditional Use Permit (CUP) from the Green River City Planning & Zoning Commission for exploration drilling on ASN’s proposed Utah Sample Demonstration Plant (USDP) follows the Green River City Council’s approval of the re-zoning of Anson’s privately-owned ground at the Green River Project for exploration drilling and mineral processing.
It will allow the company to begin drilling with the aim of utilising the brine from the drilled well directly into the lithium extraction process at the demonstration plant to replicate as closely as possible the operating conditions of ASN’s proposed future full-scale production plant.
This will include the temperature of the brine and make-up of the brine, including the lithium grade.
Carrying out this work will further de-risk the project and provide greater certainty on the attributes of the Green River project’s lithium brines for potential offtake partners.
The company has now made applications for the planned drilling program to the Utah Division of Oil and Gas (UDOGM), as well as continuing to progress through the approval stages.
Additionally, the CUP allows the company to progress its planned visitor centre, which will be used for meetings with potential off-take partners.

Demonstration plant progress
ASN also continues to progress construction of the USDP with fencing installed around the plant site in recent weeks, along with preparation of a drilling pad and the connection of grid power and other utilities.
Equipment from the ASN’s Lithium Innovation Centre (LIC) has been replicated and will be installed in the USDP.
