A sign of the times - not a good sign for the LA Times - jobs cuts and more job cuts yet again:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles_Times

    Excerpt:

In 2000, John Carroll, former editor of the Baltimore Sun, was brought in to restore the luster of the newspaper. During his reign at the Times, he eliminated more than 200 jobs....

The paper reported on July 3, 2008, that it planned to cut 250 jobs by Labor Day...

Great, as by labor day, you lot are jobless - all 250 of you. You've done a great job. what.png

And according to the following, more layoffs in the wind due to headwinds:

    Excerpt:

The LAT’s Meg James reported last week that management could slash upwards of 20% of the newsroom — or roughly 100 positions — with the looming layoffs, though a person familiar with the matter warned to me on Monday that it could ultimately end up being “much worse” than that.

The Times is certainly not alone in its struggles...

In 2023, news outlets slashed nearly 2,700 jobs...

As antidemocratic candidates look to seize power in election contests from coast to coast, newsrooms are shrinking...

lack of accountability means dishonest figures seeking higher office, and those in positions of power, could avoid crucial scrutiny, leaving the electorate less informed about the vital decisions it will have to make in November at the ballot box.

Dishonest figures in American politics?? Surely that can't be - or can it?? Avoidance of scrutiny?? Diminishing influences by media??

Vital decisions upcoming in November - surely it's shouldn't be that hard - or will it?? rolleyes.png
