Is Anybody There
Who doesn't like Michael Caine? I've liked everything I've seen him in since Alfie, but especially Alfie which resonated with my own life at that time.
Here he plays a retired magician who has had to go into an old folks home run by a young couple with a boy about 10 years old. The boy is fascinated by the after life and tries to record any signs of life after death from a steady stream of deaths in the home.
But that's just one fragment of it.
It's a great piece of cinema. Simple story lines within an overall sketch of death and renewal. I don't think Michael Caine has never made a bad movie, this may not win a BAFTA or anything else but it should.
