Who doesn't like Michael Caine? I've liked everything I've seen him in since Alfie, but especially Alfie which resonated with my own life at that time. Here he plays a retired magician who has had to go into an old folks home run by a young couple with a boy about 10 years old. The boy is fascinated by the after life and tries to record any signs of life after death from a steady stream of deaths in the home. But that's just one fragment of it. It's a great piece of cinema. Simple story lines within an overall sketch of death and renewal. I don't think Michael Caine has never made a bad movie, this may not win a BAFTA or anything else but it should.
