CANADA IS INVESTING IN TO THE UCG, SO WHY QLG GOVERNMENT IS GOING WRONG DIRECTION!!!

The Whitecourt and Woodlands County will be home to a unique and innovative new project that will turn underground coal into synthetic gas. The province will invest $285 million in the Swan Hills project, from its $2 billion Carbon Capture and Storage Fund. Construction is expected to begin in 2011 with carbon capture scheduled to start by 2015.
They are drilling at a depth of 1,400 metres below the surface makes it the deepest underground coal gasification project ever conducted in North America.
The gasification plant is expected to create 600 construction jobs in the next two years and 60 full-time jobs at the plant. The power generation plan is expected to create 300 construction jobs and 30 full-time positions.
Earlier this year the project was dubbed "the top energy infrastructure project in Canada" by Alberta oil - the business of energy magazine."

COUGAR ENERGY has this worlds best proven technology and expertise (Chinchilla burn by Dr.Len Walker). I think, Queensland government instead of going with this fiasco drama which happened over past few weeks, should reconsider, and rather invest and keep this unavoidable technology in Australia to let Cougar Energy to expand to 400MW power station, with the capacity to provide electricity to 40,000 homes in Queensland for more than 30 years and reduce the carbon emission, which Greens pushing for and suddenly even Julia Gillard is not ignoring any more...

    Alberta finances Swan Hills project
Projects / Policy, Dec 03 2009 (Carbon Capture Journal)

    - The Alberta Government has signed a Letter of Intent with Swan Hills Synfuels for an in-situ coal gasification project with CCS.
The project will use an in-situ coal gasification (ISCG) process to access coal seams that have traditionally been considered too deep to mine. The coal seams, located about 1,400 metres beneath the earths surface, will be accessed through wells that are similar to conventional oil and gas wells. The ISCG wells will be used to convert the coal underground in its original seam into syngas.
The syngas will be piped to the Whitecourt area to fuel new high-efficiency combined cycle power generation for Albertas electricity market. It will provide about 300 MW of generation capacity.
The CO2 created during the gasification process will be captured and used for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) in the Swan Hills area.
The province will invest $285 million in the Swan Hills project, from its $2 billion Carbon Capture and Storage Fund. Construction is expected to begin in 2011 with carbon capture scheduled to start by 2015.
