Putin had no reason invade as Russian puppets were Ruling Ukraine. Putin bribed Yanukovych, Medvedchuk and Saldo in billions to control Ukraine.

There were many reasons as to why Putin invade but the main reason was land grab. Ukraine got the best agri land in Europe and massively mineral rich. Ukraine was called the bread basket during USSR times more so it has massive gas and petroleum reserves that Putin feared will dent his gas monopoly in Europe. NATO expansionism and Nazi eradication are narrative stooges use for political advantage. Invasion was nothing but a land grab.
