There’s a very good article on this topic by Jacinta Price in today’s Australian newspaper. She makes the powerful point that the EDO not only disrupts major projects of national significance but damages the interests of Indigenous Australians — by denying them royalty income, employment opportunities and so on. There’s no way that Albanese and co will defund, or otherwise get rid of the EDO — they see it as a useful tool in warding off the Greens’ assault on their inner-city seats.
