Why did people like you get triggered by a dark skinned English woman?

Well the most racist person I've ever known was my mother.
She despised black people.
When I was a young kid living in England and a similarly aged black girl from Jamaica moved into our street I was forbidden to play with her.
I couldn't understand the reasoning and played with her anyway.
As punishment for disobeying mother I got a smack.
I think the root of mothers dislike was that she felt black people would take over her traditional white area.
Later when moving to Australia and a black person was made Governor of our State (Sir Douglas Nicholls) she was apoplectic because she loved the Queen and thought it would be an embarrassment to her.

I can only imagine what the reaction would be if the Federal Government decided to make an indigine Governor General.
