pension offers discount
There are different cards.
If you get a pension payment from the Commonwealth they send you a card.
If you don't qualify for the pension you can apply for another kind of card when pension age which would apply more to self funded retirees.
Commonwealth Seniors Health Card.
Doesn't have an assets test and you can earn up to $95,400 a year if you’re single and $152,640 a year for couples.
If you have one depending on your jurisdiction you can qualify for some State Government concessions like an electricity rebate.
The commonwealth rebates for having the card relate to medical expenses if applicable and prescription charges.
Where I live people holding a state government issued seniors card which you can apply for at age 60 gives you free metro public transport at any time.
The seniors card doubles as a metro card.
