Yet another atmospheric river event in California in the last 48 hours dropping massive amount of rainfall on top of recent rains.

Reports are that the heavy soils have limited, or even prevented, mummy removal this year. With the much higher incidence of NOW damage to the 2023 crop and the limited mummy removal will make the NOW problem even worse this year.

The heavy rains also come at a bad time for growers as other pre-bloom tasks have been impacted and also in the heavier soil areas they will have difficulty getting in to the orchards to best position bee hives just as pollination is starting for early blooming varieties and with nonpareil and independence about to bloom in around a week or so.
