This is what the coalition did to help with the cost of living

The 2022-23 Budget measure Addressing Cost of Living Pressures – temporary reduction in fuel excise, temporarily halved fuel excise for 6 months – from 30 March 2022 to 28 September 2022. As a consequence, the excise rate for petrol and diesel fell to 22.1 CPL, below the prevailing RUC of 26.4 CPL.

Current Fuel Excise

49.6 cents per litre

The latest fuel excise rise takes effect on Monday 5 February 2024 and sees the excise rate increase from 48.8 cents per litre to 49.6 cents per litre. While 0.8 cents is by no means a dramatic rise, the latest increase will mean close to $40 in total excise costs per tank for a large SUV with an 80-litre fuel tank.
