Home solar attracts enormous subsidies...
Electricity retailers are forced by law to fund 30-40% of the capital cost for private citizens to build their own private solar plant.
Further, hydrogen electrolysis is at best 80% efficient.
Gas combustion power generation is at best 60% efficient.
Therefore you've wasted 52% of the energy you started with.
That's before we consider the cost of storage, and the significant losses during storage.
By comparison pumped hydro is in the range of 70-85% efficient.
Wastage is below 30%.
