    Hey Way2

"I don't understand how you can saturate water with an inert gas, it cant dissolve as it does not react.
My guess is that the helium is in micro-bubbles in the water, it is not 2.5% of the reservoir but 2.5% of the gas that is freed from the water when the pressure is released and the micro-bubbles expand."

    They Merge not Combine.

Hydrogen and Oxygen combine to form H2O, 2 elements sharing electrons to form a compound

    Short answer Chemistry 101.

Imagine a jar full of sizeable rocks. = Water Molecules

Now top it off with sand = Helium Molecules (or other non reactive gas) Helium is the smallest element also known as the Houdini gas
So tThe Sand fills the gaps. Helium is inert, ie 4 protons a 4 electrons so no free electrons to share or protons to attract electrons to combine it to any other element.

A bottle of coke looks like it has no bubbles, open it, the pressure is released and the CO2 comes out or ex solves.

The Helium and water in the Rukwa Formation is essentially in a pressurized system, release the pressure, viola Gas.

Henry's law explains it very well.

    Cheers
