Hmm. No I don't agree with that. When you offer up an asset to morgage the loan will not be 100% coverage of the asset (Loan to Value Ratio (LVR)), and this scales with risk, when the HSBC announcement first came out, some posters said it would likely be a 5% loan, which using your figures is about $120,000... coincidentally that almost matches what he used to purchase shares. I have made no attempt to verify this, but I don't believe it is 100% LVR.
I should add, it use to be 100% LVR a long time ago, in the glory days, but that is near impossible these days.
