Morris Chang likely to attend Feb. 24 Japan fab opening
The new fab — Japan Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing (JASM) — is a joint venture between TSMC and its Japanese partners, including Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corp and Denso Corp, and will have a monthly production capacity of 55,000 units a month, according to the Taiwanese chipmaker.
After the opening, mass production is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of this year, focusing on specialty process development and producing chips made using the mature 12 nanometer, 16nm, 22nm and 28nm processes.
