Here is a bit more about the search being done by Li-Metal for a brownfield site to produce lithium metal from carbonate.

In a previous post I suggested the Resolute Paper Mill at Amos but perhaps there is a better one?

The NAL carbonate plant is a brownfield site.

As the project that Li-Metal are planning to build is relatively small (1,000 toy of lithium metal), perhaps they could bolt it on to the NAL carbonate plant.

That truly would be a fully integrated lithium metal supply chain.

With what is already at NAL, the planned expenditure of $109 million might come down a bit.

“At full capacity, capital expenditure is seen at $109 million. Operating costs are estimated at $31/kg, including facility leasing costs. This is less than the expected conversion cost for traditional chloride to lithium metal processes of $45–52/kg (excluding OPEX required to convert carbonate to chloride).

The commercial plant would need some 5,600 tonnes of lithium carbonate per year. Li-Metal said it is in discussions to identify partners to commercially jointly scale the C2M technology.”
