Typically the short traders save their ammunition for an attack on the close, so the closing price that's recorded is more favourable for their agenda.
OTH I suspect there is some more favourable commentary from analysts while the negative rumour mongers have gone quiet or their followers have started to doubt their credibility.
So as long as the company delivers the goods, the short traders will have less influence and the price will appreciate, slowly but surely.
