Not sure what monopoly you are talking about. LNK has been CPUs primary competitor in the AU market for decades. In fact LNK was created only shortly after CPU directly entered the share registry business. LNK has desperately tried to compete and emulate CPUs business model and global expansion ever since. As you can see they haven't been nearly as successful. Over time CPU has grown from an AU / NZ business to a global leader which has established a dominant position in most major western markets. It has however never had a monopoly.

If AU did not have monopoly regulations then LNK simply wouldn't exist because the JV between the ASX and Perpetual which created the company wouldn't have ever happened. The ASX finally gave up trying to eat CPUs lunch and sold LNK to private equity many years back. They then tarted it up and flogged it to the market. Even with the advantage of running the exchange and being the regulator didn't help the ASX out-compete CPU.

The vast majority of CPU business, income and profit is now offshore and has been since early this century. The AU business is a tiny fraction of the company. Not sure what you think has changed?
