would solar work if the grid is down & you've got battery connected to your solar?
You can arrange for a home installation that senses when the grid goes down.
In such an installation the inverter disconnects from the grid then restarts in island mode.
They usually also have a separate power line in the house that powers the fridge and whatever is deemed necessary until the power comes on again. Such an installation would cost a lot more than what most people go with.
Most want to reduce their power bills when installing solar with the expectation that the installation will pay for itself over a few years.
