a simple thing - it is
how effective - probably not much.
some points
1. obviously children should not be allowed to buy knives - absolutely 100%, weapon type knives
2. banning such would probably not make a bean of difference
3. quick fixes do not work for long term outcomes - you can get a quick fix, but your root cause is cultural
4. One could stop knife crime in any area - state or federal within weeks ------------ easy. - but the problem is - you would have to bring in draconian laws - and that sets you up for governments to continue down the draconian path - which is absolutely against most people's values
Take right wingers on here - their values - they say -
government should get out of the way
freedom is good
we should be allowed to do what we like
but, then - they support draconian measures, brought in by governments and those measures (laws) absolutely restrict their freedom
there's the problem - nothing matches --------------- policy can not match their basic principles
what one needs is a society where children do not carry knives as weapons at all - by choice - so culturally embedded that they never even would think about it
it's the culture that is the problem - and, there is no quick fix for cultural change
