    Because michael123, deregulation and privatization have not provided the competition to drive prices down for the average consumer in fact just the opposite, have you taken a look at your water or power bills lately, if there were more major players perhaps the ideals originally hoped for might have come into effect, try asking the farmers about the prices coles and woolies pay at the farm gate and consider why the big corporates want to bring in even more produce from asia, the fact is our population isn't big enough or clever enough to sustain deregulation for more than a couple of major players, hence price go up, quality go down.
    PS : i'm a swinging voter, due to the fact that all politicians lie, i pick the most impressive lier.
