Sorry, mate, I can't agree; it's not a commodity - and you can't really treat it as such.

It can be standardised to some extent based on purity, but the various forms of HPA and applications make it more akin to a specialised material.

- particle size makes a difference; finer particles are for certain coatings or metallurgy processes, and larger are for substrates or granular materials.
- the surface area can affect reactivity and other properties such as capacity or catalytic activity.
- Crystal structure can influence its mechanical, thermal and electrical properties.
- the trace impurities can make a difference depending on what they are: silica, iron, sodium, etc
- surface morphology and shape/roughness can impact dispersion and adhesion properties in various formulations.

Each customer will need something different - that is why the big kahuna in HPA is Sumitomo Chemicals - a chemicals business.

If you have a precedent for HPA sold as a commodity, I'm all ears, but as far as I'm aware, what you suggest doesn't exist.

My reference to Kallium Lakes was about Australia not having a local SOP supplier (last time I looked, anyway), and their going belly up has made it harder for all those wanting to follow in their footsteps.
