Callide B and Gladstone (NRG) are the first to close in Qld. Up until Callide C failed B load was reduced, and most of Gladstone's load comes from Rio Tinto's Boyne Aluminium Smelter. There's about 4GW of wind and solar planned for CQ in the next 5 yrs, the map below shows the proposed developments and doesn't include the big batteries planned for Raglan, Gladstone South and Gin Gin? Callide B was planned for 2025, I think it's 2028 now, Gladstone, being part owned by Rio Tinto, will likely close once Upper Calliope is online. Officially I think it's date is 2033, but it's been averaging below 50% availability for yrs now and 2033 doesn't align with Rio's emissions reduction pathway.
If anything Qld atm has too much renewables and are desperate for a coal power station to close, there's lots of curtailment of the utility solar farms out west to fit in all the rooftop solar. The grid can take a coal closure without even flinching currently, there's a surplus of RE but it's not getting where it should be, what we need is more batteries and transmission.
