I have owned a Tesla for three years (sold it to my son in December and waiting on a new EV, expected April). When plugged into the mains (2KW charger ie 10A plug and lead) it charges at a rate of 13Km/hr which if you are waiting at a set of lights will not add too much range in say three minutes. Even my hardwired 11KW charger will charge at about 80Km/hr which is much better (more than a Km per minute). The heavier the car, the greater the energy needed (same as more fuel in petrol cars). The efficiency of the car motors is also a big factor, later generation cars are more efficient. Needless to say, to be useful these chargers will need to be high power 11KW plus, that means a lot of copper, thicker coils to handle the high currents (that is why I am also invested in copper).
