When the tide goes out you find out who's been swimming naked. Plenty of companies on the ASX200 who are big, but not good investments the moment you start looking under the hood. In a low interest rate environment these companies can get away with murder, in a tougher capital environment the scrutiny starts to come.
I'm speaking very generally here but this can range from bad management, bad employees, unsustainable debt, questionable assets that crumble in a bear market and more.
These super funds buy...until they don't. Plenty of examples in history of companies that people deemed too big to fail until they did.
For the record I actually like the duopoly as businesses. Pretty bullet proof until you have train wreck business decisions like the ones being made recently. Why ever risk alienating potential customers? What happens if they actually do follow through with threats of boycotts? Revenue falls, funds get nervous ect...
Especially in this macro.
