Some more insights into the costs of infrastructure in Madagascar...

This article talks about the state of the roads in other parts of the country, but in the last paragraph, there is mention that "it would take 400 million ariary to rehabilitate a one-kilometer stretch of road."

400m ariary equates to about US$90k per KM for road rehabilitation.



I am not sure what level of rehabilitation is required, but I would imagine it would be closer to redeveloping the road than just filling in a couple of potholes.

We will also need to build or rehabilitate about 120kms of road, with potentially a few small towns needing to be bypassed, which using the number above gives us a figure of about US$10.8m, and in the Scoping Study we have between $21m and $50m allocated, with the higher end likely bypassing villages, building all weather roads and building some bridges.



The article calls out RN7, which is the main road we will use:

"Travelers on national road 7 also complain about the state of the Sakaraha-Andranovory road.", and on Google Maps, that seems about 65kms long.

This was called out by WAI in the report, so perhaps that is where US$6m of the US$20m is allocated from the low capex case.
