I am hoping it is a tree shake by an accumulator, or just a nasty conditional stop loss order predator.

imagine this scenario:

you are a retail investor and your broker is Commsec. You bought ATP around 9c and you are delighted to see it more than double in price to 22c one day. You say to yourself, “ this is a wonderful stock, which could still go lots higher, but I want to protect my profits …commsec lets me place a conditional stop loss on at any price, for no charge. I will put a conditional sell order on at 18c. I doubt the stock will fall that low, but should it do so, my conditional stop loss order will lock in my 100% gain.”

so you place your conditional stop loss order on at 18c….and rest easy…

but what you may not realise is that the boys at the big end of town have access to see all of those conditional stop loss orders!

if they are keen to pick up more stock, or just want to artificially drive down the share price for a quick trade, they see your stop loss order and by selling a just a few shares maybe, can trigger the stop loss order, and a stack of other stop loss orders, too, perhaps.

once they have their fill, they can nudge the price back up again, or maybe the price will just move back up naturally.

We retail investors can’t play this game; in fact, we are the patsies, but only if we place conditional stop loss orders, for the brokers to exploit.

it is better to set alerts and manually sell the stock once the target sell price gets hit.

I wonder if this scenario is what has been happening today and yesterday…
