I am at a bit of a loss as to why people are righting off the advantage of being the first to get a workable system in place. One of the key criteria for anyone looking to be involved in something is past experience. If INT are the first then they will have a major advantage for many years, until another company builds up the expertise.
The biggest risk with the lack of registered IP is that essentially you own your peoples skill set, which others can poach. If this is our problem in the future, then it wil probably be a result of a successful company and INT will be doing a lot better than now.
