    Hey Kiwi, I also have a SMSF.

    Just adjust your investment strategy so that you can hold more oil/gas startups (nominally classified as speculative) in your growth stocks asset category.

    In your case you have a particular professional skill and experience whereby you can gauge and mitigate the risk of oil/gas startups so that the risk is diminished from speculative to normal growth - just state that in the investment strategy and I would like to see ATO or anyone doubt that!
