.money is all the chinese care about.
The largest corporation in history, East India Company traded in slavery and opium. It forced opium upon the Chinese population to such an extent that at its peak 75 million opium addicts drained the resources of China. The Chinese went to war with Britain twice in an attempt to stop the trade with no success with a settlement reached that Ceded Hong Kong to the British. It was all about money and the trade persisted for 100 years.
"The Opium Wars of 1839-42 and 1856-60 between Qing-dynasty China and Britain are a perfect case study of the international divergence of opinion that the Empire continues to generate. In China the conflicts – the first between it and a western nation – are a national wound: the start of a western conspiracy to destroy China with drugs and gunboats. In Britain the wars barely seem to register in public memory."
The opium wars was about money and these wars supported the biggest drug cartel in history, a British conglomerate!
"When the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank was founded in 1865, as a conduit for accrued opium wealth, its principal founder, Thomas Sutherland (of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company), declared it would be run according to 'sound Scottish banking principles'."
HSBC was founded on the proceeds of opium, once again it was about money.
Your view on history and the effects on the Chinese people is misguided, China has not forgotten its painful history and is now in a position to extract a little revenge maybe?
